BRIN and FST UIN Maliki Malang Explore Nuclear Technology Research Collaboration

FST UIN Maliki Malang - (18/02/2026) Discussion on exploring research cooperation between the Nuclear Power Research Organization of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang took place. The meeting was the first step in building a nuclear technology-based research collaboration that is oriented towards the needs of society.
Head of BRIN's Nuclear Power Research Organization, Saiful Bahri, said that the synergy between national research institutions and universities is key in strengthening the innovation ecosystem in Indonesia. According to him, the current utilization of nuclear technology is no longer limited to the energy sector, but has developed into various fields such as agriculture, food, health, and the environment.
“Collaboration with universities, including religious universities, is important to ensure that technology development is in line with ethical values and the benefit of society,” he said in the discussion forum.
A number of research themes were discussed at the meeting. These included the use of irradiation technology for plant breeding and improving food security, technology to extend the shelf life of food products through the irradiation process, and a safe and sustainable radioactive waste management system. In addition, cooperation opportunities also include food quality testing, sterilization of medical devices, and development of nuclear technology-based materials.
FST UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang stated the readiness of lecturer resources and laboratory facilities to support the collaborative research. This collaboration is expected to not only produce scientific publications and patents, but also present applicable solutions that can be utilized by the community, especially in the agricultural sector and food industry.
The meeting is planned to be followed up with the formulation of a more concrete research program in the near future. Both parties expressed their commitment to develop nuclear technology in a safe, responsible, and welfare-oriented manner. (Indah)
