FST UIN Maliki Malang - (24/01/2026) The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang continues to strengthen its commitment to internationalization through the program staff exchange in various overseas educational institutions. Most recently, Fitria Nungky Harjanti, a lecturer in the Biology Study Program, successfully completed an academic capacity building program at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Hiroshima University, Japan, which took place on January 19-23, 2026.
During the five-day intensive, the UIN Malang delegation explored a variety of cutting-edge learning methods designed to transform the lecture hall into a more dynamic and participatory environment. The main focus of the training included teaching strategies for the effective use of microscopes as well as the utilization of interactive learning media based on the method of broadcasting. This approach is geared towards creating a more visual, interactive biology learning process, as well as making it easier for students to understand complex concepts.
In addition to strengthening pedagogy in the laboratory, field practice experience is also an important part of this program. Fitria Nungky had the opportunity to do sampling zooplankton and direct microscopic observation. The activity provided a comprehensive insight into the implementation of research-based practicum methods that are aligned with global biology education standards.
As part of the enrichment of academic and cultural perspectives, the series of activities was also complemented by educational visits to the Fukuyama University Aquarium and Fukuyama Castle. These visits provide a contextual learning experience that integrates marine science, history, and Japanese cultural values into a holistic academic experience.
Through the program staff exchange FST UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang hopes that lecturers can immediately adapt and implement these innovative learning practices in the lecture process. This strategic step is expected to improve the quality of teaching in the Biology Study Program while strengthening the competitiveness of graduates at the international level. (Nungky)
