FST UIN Maliki Malang - (20/11/2025) The Library and Information Science (PSI) Study Program, Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang organized a double-themed guest lecture on “Information Retrieval in the Digital Age: New Concepts, Technologies, and Challenges” and “Realizing Data-Driven Information Institution: Best Practice Strategies for Implementing Data Science in Information Service Management.” The event was held online and attended by students and lecturers of the study program. The material in this activity focused on the latest ways to manage, find, and interpret information in the midst of technological acceleration.
The activity presented Dwi Fajar Saputra, S.Sos., M.M. lecturer of Information Science study program FISIP UPN Jakarta. On this occasion he invited participants to see the real practice of applying data science, AI, and digital technology to information services ranging from data-based institutional design, improving the quality of retrieval, to utilizing audiovisual formats and data visualization to enrich access and user experience.
The sessions were organized in a warm and interactive manner: opening, presentation, discussion, then Q&A. Students were invited to understand why search models no longer stop at keywords, but move to semantic analysis, machine learning, and more precise image/sound-based searches. The principles of ethics and authenticity of archives, data literacy, and information security are also emphasized so that digital transformation remains based on professional responsibility.
This guest lecture will provide practical knowledge and inspiration for students to develop relevant, adaptive and humanistic research and information service projects and strengthen PSI's international collaboration with practitioners and academics in the information field. (Niz)
