Practitioner Guest Lecture: Challenges and Realities of Managing Archives in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

FST UIN Maliki Malang - (07/10/2025) The Library and Information Science Study Program held a guest lecture entitled "Challenges and Realities of Managing Archives in the Era of Artificial Intelligence" at the South Audit of the B.J. Habibie Building, at 09.00-12.00 WIB. The activity was attended by active students, especially those taking Record and Archive Management courses, and also attended by lecturers of the study program.

Present as a resource person, Bobby Hari Siswanto, A.Md. explained the archival landscape from upstream to downstream: from the history of archives, the regulatory framework (archival law), to the official manuscript system that regulates the physical type of archives and retention schedules. Responding to the acceleration of technology and variety of information, Bobby emphasized the importance of media transfer policies from printed documents to digital formats that are standardized and easily searchable.

In front of the participants, Bobby encouraged students to be confident in pursuing the field of archives and librarianship. "Never be insecure about working in archives or libraries; the most important thing is to keep upgrading your skills." He said, emphasizing that in many large companies, the record manager is a vital and prestigious role in information governance.

Through this guest lecture, students are expected not only to understand the concepts in the classroom, but also to get an implementative picture of the application of archival science in institutions including its dynamics, challenges, and opportunities in the era of artificial intelligence. The activity was closed with a question and answer session that strengthened practical understanding while sparking motivation to build archival competencies that are relevant to the needs of today's industry and government.
