Sharpening Journalistic Skills, FST UIN Malang Send Human Resources to Tempo

FST-UIN Malang (09/19/2024) The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang (UIN Malang) sent one staff member, Sabar, to attend a journalism course for public relations practitioners at Tempo Institut, a wing of the PT TEMPO INTI MEDIA Tbk. group, which is engaged in education. Tempo Institut facilitates various writing trainings.

This program aims to improve writing skills and understanding of journalism in online or print media. This is in line with what was expressed by the Deputy Dean for General Administration, Finance, and Planning (AUPK), Akyunul Jannah, both educators and education personnel have the same opportunity to gain knowledge in accordance with their respective fields. So that every HR in the FST UIN Malang environment is updated on the development of all fields of science according to their duties, said the Chemistry study program lecturer.

This activity lasts for three days, discussing, sharing to hands-on practice in creating website archives and press releases. The activity, which was attended by two well-known institutions, the Financial Services Authority and LLDIKTI IX, was guided directly by Tempo Editor, Mitra Tarigan, who discussed techniques for writing website articles in accordance with journalistic rules.

According to Mitra, every website article written must have a sharp angle, value, and accurate ideas. Before writing a website article, a journalist must already have data, which can be obtained from research, observation, and interviews.

In addition to Mitra, there was also Rini Kustiani, Managing Editor of Tempo. Rini shared material on how to write a good and interesting press release. According to Rini, press releases should contain events, products, and policies, while still paying attention to news value and 5W1H. The approach used in this training is participatory. So that all participants were enthusiastic and excited during the activity.

In addition to learning about writing, this activity also discussed the basics of photojournalism. Tempo Photo Director, Ijar Karim, said that journalistic photography is a photo that can capture the essence of a person or an event and leave an unforgettable memory for everyone who sees it. This is important to apply in taking photos at every event or activity. Thus, it makes website articles more interesting and actual.

This HR quality improvement program is routinely carried out every year, as one of the strategic steps in achieving a superior campus with an international reputation. Dean of FST UIN Malang, Sri Harini, revealed that participation in this course is a strategic step to prepare human resources to face challenges in media and communication.

Sabar, as one of the participants in the activity, was very enthusiastic and hoped to apply the knowledge gained on campus. Also, it can strengthen the synergy between journalists on campus. (Niz)
