FST UIN Maliki Malang - (08/11/2025) The Faculty of Science and Technology organized the Green Farmers Club Event 2025 with the theme of “Introduction to Orchid Cultivation & Entrepreneurship for Beginners.” The activity was attended by active students in FST with various study programs. The activity is designed as a warm learning space and close to practice, so that students from various study programs in the FST environment can experience firsthand the process of caring for plants while understanding business opportunities.
Presenting as a speaker, Dedek Setia Santoso, S.Sos. Owner of DD Orchid Nursery, guided participants through the basics of proper orchid cultivation: selecting varieties, preparing planting media, safe watering and fertilizing techniques, and simple pest and disease control. With real-life examples in the garden, students were invited to see that diligence and scientific knowledge go hand in hand.
The entrepreneurship session opened up new horizons. Participants were introduced to how to read market opportunities, assess basic maintenance costs, fair pricing principles, and simple strategies to build customer trust-from honest branding, good product photos, to after-sales service. The approach is down-to-earth: small, consistent, and impactful.
The atmosphere of the activity was intimate. Students shared their experiences, tried to tie seeds, observed healthy roots, and discussed the utilization of digital platforms for marketing. This hands-on approach helped participants understand that science is not just a theory in the classroom, but a provision to work and benefit the surrounding.
Through this activity, FST wants to emphasize its commitment to applicative and humanist learning and encourage students to broaden their horizons, gain field experience, and build a science-based entrepreneurial spirit. (Niz)
