Malang - State Islamic University (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang through a team of researchers from the Faculty of Science and Technology has successfully developed smart sensor technology that incorporates Electronic Nose (E-Nose) and Electronic Tongue (E-Tongue) to detect halal food quickly and accurately. The team was led by Dr. Imam Tazi, M.Si (7/8).
Sensor hybrids It is able to distinguish between beef, pork, and mixtures, even in very small levels, in just a matter of minutes. This innovation addresses an important challenge in the halal food industry, where Muslims are prohibited from conducting spot checks by tasting products of questionable halalness.
This research is supported by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) with funding of 400 million rupiah in a multi-year research scheme for the period 2024-2025. The test results show a high level of accuracy, allowing the halal verification process to be carried out practically and efficiently without having to go through lengthy and expensive laboratory procedures.
Tazi said that the development of this technology will continue by integrating artificial intelligence (artificial intelligence). This aims to make the sensor system smarter and able to detect the halalness of various food products more broadly and adaptively.
With this technology, food manufacturers can check halalness quickly in the production line, speed up the certification process, and increase consumer confidence in halal products on the market. In the future, this technology is also expected to be applied to various types of processed food products, expanding the scope of halal assurance in the food industry.
This innovation is not only a proof of UIN Malang's academic and research capabilities, but also strengthens the university's real contribution in meeting the global need for safe and reliable halal products. In the midst of increasing public awareness of the importance of halal products, this technology has the potential to strengthen Indonesia's position as the center of the world's halal industry. UIN Malang continues to be committed to becoming an institution that excels not only in Islamic knowledge, but also in the development of modern science and technology for the advancement of the people and the nation.
