FST UIN Maliki Malang - (25/10/2025) The Library and Information Science (PSI) Study Program together with the PSI Student Association held a National Seminar themed “The Future of Information Professions Amidst the Onslaught of the Artificial Intelligence Revolution.” The activity took place at 07.00-12.00 WIB in the Auditorium Building D, Campus 1 UIN Malang, with a hybrid format (offline and online). Present as a guest speaker Agus Santoso, S.Sos., M.Med.Kom. as Head of the Library of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) and Dedy Dwi Putra, M.Hum. acted as moderator.

he organization of this seminar departs from the reality of the acceleration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that is changing the way humans access, manage, and utilize information. The impact is felt widely in the profession of librarians, archivists, data analysts, documentalists, and other information professionals who are now required to adapt while capturing AI opportunities to improve efficiency, innovation, and service quality.
In the main session, the speakers mapped the transformation of the information profession in the AI era from data processing automation, predictive analysis, to personalized services. The importance of synchronizing institutional policies with technological developments was emphasized, including the transfer of printed documents to digital media that is reliable and easily searchable. From an archival perspective, strategic issues such as data security and privacy, copyright protection and information ethics, to digital data resilience (risk of leakage, manipulation, and loss) are discussed, which require strong policies, regulations, and ethical standards to keep AI applications safe and responsible.
The enthusiasm of the participants was reflected in the question and answer session that was full of questions-from career development opportunities in the AI-based information ecosystem, the need for AI literacy and digital competence, to best practices for maintaining data ethics and compliance. The speakers emphasized that AI needs to be positioned as a tool that strengthens productivity, not a threat, as long as it is accompanied by an increase in hard skills, soft skills, and professional attitudes that are in line with industry demands.
The event was attended by 85 participants consisting of PSI students, lecturers, cross-program and campus participants, and high school student representatives. The series of events included registration, opening and singing Indonesia Raya, remarks from the head of the study program, introduction to the moderator, delivery of material, discussion-question and answer, and closing at 12.00 WIB.
Through this seminar, PSI UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang affirms its commitment to prepare adaptive, competent, and innovative human resources. The findings and recommendations of the forum are expected to be the basis for strengthening the curriculum, applied research, and information services that are relevant to the demands of the AI era, while ensuring that the information profession continues to exist, be strategic, and competitive.
