Overview of PSI UIN Maliki Malang at MA Perguruan Muallimat Jombang: Profile & Study Prospects

FST UIN Maliki Malang - (18/11/2025) The Library and Information Science (PSI) Study Program of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang introduced the program profile and career prospects to students at MA Perguruan Muallimat Jombang through the agenda “PSI Overview: Profile & Prospects”. The activity was opened by the Head of Madrasah and attended by all final grade students who are preparing to continue their studies to college.

Present as speakers, Nita Siti Mudawamah, M.IP. (Head of Study Program) and Wahyu Hariyanto, M.M. (Secretary of Study Program). In their presentation, the PSI team outlined the strategic position of the library and information science field in the digital era ranging from knowledge management, digital content curation, information literacy, to archive and data governance. The PSI curriculum was presented briefly: courses in the basics of information science, library and archive management, data literacy, technology-based information services, as well as strengthening soft-skills such as communication, scientific writing, and project collaboration.

The graduate prospect session highlighted a variety of career opportunities: modern librarians and archivists, knowledge/records managers, information & digital content specialists, documentalists, data center and repository staff, to information entrepreneurship (digitization services, information service providers, information literacy consultants). The presenters also shared examples of work sectors in universities, schools/madrasas, government agencies, creative industries, start-ups, and non-profit organizations as well as suggested additional competencies: mastery of reference management tools, basic data processing, information ethics, and data security.

Students' enthusiasm was shown in the question and answer session about scholarships, internships / MBKM, student research opportunities, and readiness to face digital transformation in information institutions. The study program emphasized its commitment to academic assistance, applicative learning, and partnership networks so that students are ready to compete in the world of work and further studies.

Through this activity, PSI UIN Maliki Malang hopes that students will get a full picture of what they are learning, the skills they are building, and the future of the information profession - as well as opening a space for dialog so that college choices are made carefully, according to their interests and career plans.
