FST UIN Maliki Malang - (15/10/2025) Mathematics Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology held a discussion on the preparation for the opening of the Study Program Data Science. The discussion was held internally and attended by the head of the study program and all lecturers of the Mathematics Study Program. This activity was opened by the Head of the Mathematics Study Program, Dr. Fachrur Rozi. In his remarks, he said that the development of this new study program aims to produce graduates who not only understand Islamic science, but also have the ability in technology and data analysis.
To strengthen the direction of planning, the Mathematics Study Program presented a resource person from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya, namely Mohammad Iqbal, Ph.D. In his presentation, he explained that Data Science Data analysis is a multidisciplinary field, with a scientific foundation that includes mathematics, statistics, computer science, and data visualization skills. He also emphasized the importance of being able to convey the results of data analysis in a clear and understandable manner to support decision-making.
As part of the curriculum preparation, the faculty team reviewed the Data Science curriculum of Western Sydney University (WSU). The curriculum was used as a reference in developing core courses, such as Computational Theory and Programming, Applied Statistical Models, Large Scale Data Analysis (Big Data), as well as Data Ethics and Legality. The goal is to make the curriculum relevant to current needs and in line with global education standards.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of establishing partnerships with industry. Lecturers and resource persons agreed that the involvement of the world of work is very important in supporting learning. Therefore, the curriculum will be designed to include project-based learning and industrial internship programs, so that students have direct experience in processing real data. Thus, graduates are expected to be ready to enter the workforce with the appropriate competencies. (Beautiful)
