FST UIN Maliki Malang - (03/12/2025) The Library and Information Science Study Program (PSI) of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang held an international guest lecture entitled “Realizing Data Driven Information Institution Best Practice Strategies for Implementing Data Science in Information Service Management”. The session was held online since 08.00 WIB and presented Prof. Madya Ts. Dr. Roziya Abu from Faculty of Information Science, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia as the main speaker. The event was opened by the Vice Dean I for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Evika Sandi Safitri, M.P. and attended by all study program lecturers and students.
In her presentation, Dr. Roziya emphasized that information institutions need to move beyond traditional services towards data-driven institutions that are responsive to user needs. She mapped out the data science workflow in information services from collection, cleaning/preparation, prescriptive predictive descriptive analysis, to dashboard visualization to support fast and measurable service decisions.
To enrich the perspective, case studies were presented: the transformation of academic library services in Malaysia, the practice of personalization and space monitoring in Singapore's national library, and the lifelong learning support model in Finnish public libraries. Dr. Roziya also introduced the 5D institutional model as a step-by-step framework towards a truly data-driven information institution.
The session was lively and interactive. Students and lecturers discussed how information retrieval has moved from keywords to semantic analysis, machine learning, and image/sound-based searches and how to ensure archival authenticity, data literacy, and information security remain ethical footing in every service innovation.
Through this guest lecture, PSI affirms its commitment to provide learning that is up-to-date, relevant, and humanistic. The hope is that the insights and good practices shared will spark the development of research, service projects, and cross-institutional collaborations so that PSI graduates are ready to play a role as data-savvy, ethically-sensitive, and impactful information managers.
