FST UIN Maliki Malang - (04/12/2025) The Physics Study Program of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang held an international guest lecture entitled “Green Energy Materials: Producing Activated Carbon from Waste for Better Batteries". This activity was held online via Zoom Meeting starting at 09.00 WIB.
The guest lecture was officially opened by the Vice Dean I for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Prof. Dr. Evika Sandi Safitri, M.P. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of strengthening a globally oriented academic atmosphere for students.
“Through international guest lectures like this, students not only gain theoretical knowledge, but also practical insights related to global research developments that are relevant to today's energy sustainability challenges,” said Prof. Evika.
He added that cross-country academic collaboration is an important part of improving the quality of higher education and the competitiveness of graduates at the international level. According to him, the topics of green energy and sustainable materials are strategic areas that need to be continuously developed in the academic environment.
As the main speaker, Physics Study Program presented Dr. Syahida Suhaimi, Head of Applied Physics Study Program of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). In her presentation, Dr. Syahida explained the results of research on the development of green energy materials, especially the use of waste as raw material for *activated carbon* to improve battery performance.
Dr. Syahida said that the utilization of waste as a functional material not only contributes to improving the efficiency of battery technology, but also becomes an innovative solution in environmentally friendly waste management.
This guest lecture was moderated by a lecturer in the Physics Study Program at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Utiya Hikmah, M.Si. The activity took place interactively through discussion sessions that allowed participants to dialog directly with the speakers regarding aspects of research, technological applications, and opportunities for further development in the field of green energy materials.
Through this activity, students are expected to broaden their knowledge about the development of sustainable energy research at the global level, as well as strengthen international academic networks. Participants who took part in this activity also received e-certificates as a form of appreciation.
The implementation of the international guest lecture is a form of commitment of the Physics Study Program of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang in supporting the internationalization of higher education and presenting academic activities that are relevant to the development of global science and technology, especially in the field of green energy and sustainability.
