FST UIN Maliki - (22/9/2025) Students of the Master of Biology Study Program officially took part in a series of Introduction to Academic and Student Culture (PBAK) which was held since morning with great enthusiasm. This agenda is a very important entrance for new students to get to know the academic culture, campus facilities, and the dynamics of postgraduate studies, especially in today's digital era.
The event was opened at 07.30 WIB by the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Dr. Agus Mulyono, M. Kes. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of academic commitment and integrity, as well as emphasizing the characteristics of UIN Malang graduates who are not only intellectually superior, but also have spiritual depth and moral nobility. Meanwhile, the Head of the Biology Master Program, Dr. Dwi Suheriyanto, M.P., introduced the vision and mission of the study program as well as the academic challenges that must be taken, including scientific publication requirements for graduates.
Entering the next session, students received an introduction to e-Library services delivered by the Head of UPT Library, Mufid, S.Ag., S.S., M. Hum. In this session, it was explained how to propose books and articles, access to international journal subscriptions, to the utilization of the e-Library service. research tools UIN Malang's e-Library has now transformed into a digital literacy center that fully supports academic and research activities.
The event continued with a public lecture from Prof. Drs. Sutiman Bambang Sumitro, SU, D.Sc., who highlighted the opportunities and challenges of biologists in the digital era. He described the shift of biology from classical science to an interdisciplinary approach that intersects with health, environment, food, and energy issues. The presence of digital technology, including artificial intelligence, is believed to be an important motor in encouraging the birth of innovation and efficiency of modern biological research.
In addition, Rizal Muhammad, M.Si., an alumnus of Master of Biology, also shared his experience about study and career development. He emphasized the importance of motivation, discipline, career planning, and supporting skills such as scientific communication and time management. Rizal also reminded new students to actively build networks with lecturers, researchers, and alumni as capital to expand opportunities for academic and professional collaboration.
The PBAK series was closed at 12.15 WIB with the delivery of additional information about the academic agenda and self-development opportunities through workshops and other student activities. (Niz)
